Rainy Day People

Awakened to a bright and sunny morning.  Opened the blinds and let the sun warm the rooms sending off the night’s chill. The ocean was flat and the sky blue in all directions of the horizon.  Oh, what a day to hang the laundry.  Washed the sheets, towels and assorted garments to let them collect the scent of fresh air in drying on a warm breeze.  Hmmm….. Do I feel like the ‘real NZ woman’ or what?

But wait, clothes are almost dry and what should appear on the western horizon but puffy grey clouds.  A small breeze ruffles the surface of the bay and then blows a little harder causing the trees to dance in the wind.  Then the tattoo of rain drops on the metal roof tells me that the clothes are getting a second rinse and I check the weather.  Yes indeed showers today but clear tomorrow.  Okay, I’m resigned to allowing the sheets and other laundry to face the night alone on the line and dry in the morning.  Not sure if this is traditionally NZ style laundry, but I just don’t want to give in to nature and use the electric dryer.

Actually it is March 5th, which is the start of the
autumnal weather here.  This translates into September
at home in Washington.

But this Island weather is phenomenal as well, as it can
change on a dime (or twenty cent piece here).  I do enjoy
the intense sun, although it is highly suggested that we all have head gear to block out most of the harmful rays. NZ is greatly impacted by the thinning of the ozone layer over the Antarctic.

All is good, J

  1. Sounds like you are settling right in as a NZ woman...good on you mate! Larry and I signed up at the LSA yesterday, and plan on taking it in tomorrow, as the weather is headed down hill with biblical rains and winds in the forecast....sounds like a good day for indoor activities. Glad all is well with you. Suzi
