4 Chicken Carcasses for $1.03

Awakened yesterday morning with the horrible, ‘womanly infection’ and felt totally debilitated. Self-dosed with saved antibiotics and went back to sleep for an hour. (Will make an appointment with my new NZ MD tomorrow.) Felt mildly refreshed and on the way back to healthy strength and was craving chicken soup. I wanted to pressure cook a chicken but didn’t want to do the whole thing. So I made 4 bean chili con carne with minced beef (hamburger), I had tucked away in the freezer. It was good condimented with thin slices of hot Slovakian sausage from the Saturday market.

Sunrise snaking its way though the morning clouds.
Gaining more energy I sallied out to pick up a few items from the local Pak n Save and stopped at a wonderful Chinese vegetable market and took a quick spin through the attached butcher shop. The meats there are fresh and they have nice specials. Sitting in a freezer near the door were chicken carcasses with lots of meat still on the bone and beef soup bones, all for $1. per package. I bought one of each and gloried in the thought of making such a nourishing, inexpensive soup in my pressure cooker. At the moment the pressure cooker weight is rocking away allowing puffs of the ginger, garlic, onion, and chicken smell to infuse our home. So lovely and as my mother-in-law used to say, “Getting such a good deal financially makes me feel so virtuous!”

Day later:

I went to the MD I've chosen as my primary care giver. She was lovely. She had her medical training in South Africa and noted she has an interest in psychology. When I practiced in Canada we loved the South African and NZ trained MD’s. What I liked about her is that she took the time to draw a picture of 'my plumbing' and illustrate exactly what her take was on my practice of self medicating and what she would suggest. It was good to have someone who didn't need to hold my hand or scold me, but did meet me on an emotional and
intellectual level.

All this and an ocean view. Can't ask for more!
