Feijoas and the 'Child Friendly Environment'

Feijoa tree
Feijoa on tree
In our front area is a type of Myrtle tree that is called a Feijoa. It bears the most wonderful fruit in the Fall, between March and June. Yesterday I shook the tree and brought in 5 feijoas and could only share one with my husband when he came home from work. Unfortunately the other 4 found their way onto a spoon and into my mouth before I could stop them! They have a flavor similar to the smell of a delicious flower sort of like an exotic rosewater. The flavor is not too sweet and leaves the taste-buds screaming for more. Feijoas are high in vitamin C and when ripe are green and about the size of an egg.

The tree looks similar to an olive tree, which we also have in abundance here in the neighborhood. In the Spring it blooms with a very dramatic red flower. Will take a picture of ours then.

SOOO Good!
Went to Bunnings today. This is the NZ answer to Home Depot. Was amused again to see the cafe, child-play area sign. NZ is still very child oriented. Back in '85 we visited with our kiddies and realized how lovely life could be, with play areas every few blocks and store owners doting on our children offering them free 'lollies'. Don't know why this is so, but it's so good.

Still enjoying it here, J

Playtime at the hardware store!

  1. Now, I would enjoy that myself! As well as all the hardware. Do they have anything unusual in tools, unlike you might find in Home Depot?
